Surrealism.
Working on all my finals projects. One of them is supposed to be a tradition figure drawing set in a surrealist background. I'm thinking about putting her in some sort of post-apocalyptic setting in mostly black and white. The other is supposed to be a tradition self-portrait, which I am not looking forward to, but maybe it will turn out all right. I'm making a doll house for my final in design; the only instructions were to make something out of wood without using nails or screws, etc. I don't think I'm going to have any time to paint it or anything since I only have about a week and a half to work on it, and I will most likely be at home for a good amount of that time.

I'm registered for sculpture and graphic design next semester. I have an art history paper due on Tuesday that I haven't started researching or writing. I have a theater performance and a percussion performance left, two final exams, two final critiques, one guard audition, and then I'm done. Except all that is packed into the next two weeks on top of studying, meetings, going to class, packing, my boyfriend's senior prom, and maybe sleeping or eating.

But it is almost summer.

I made my very first project in design today, and I am quite pleased with it.

The assignment was to create a 4x4x4 cube out of foam core board.  Professor Massey demonstrated one method of creating the cube in class on Tuesday, and today we all had to make our own.

I got mine on the first try!  I could still see some things that weren't perfect with it, but it was comparatively a lot better than most of the other first trys.

I asked Prof. Massey if I should make another one/do it over, and he said that he wouldn't.  He said that he noticed really only one area that could be fixed, but it was not a big enough mistake to lower my grade.  I think that means I will get an A+ on the project!  We are mostly being graded on our craftsmanship on this project, and it will be a major part of our grades on our other projects as well.

I really hope I do well in this class, not only to bring up my GPA, but to make some good work that I can present at my Sophomore Major Advancement Interview next semester.  I suppose I'll just see how it goes, and maybe next time I can write about something a little more creative.

We'll see how it goes this time.

Sometimes she would get up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom and find her father there in his pajama bottoms, his neck craned up, a kind of patrician disdain accompanying the shaving cream on his upper lip. "Hi, Presh," he would say. It was short for "precious," and she loved him to call her that. Why was he shaving at night, when no one would know if he had a beard? "Because" --he smiled-- "your mother will know." Years later, she discovered that she had understood this cheerful remark only incompletely. Her parents had been in love.

Lenina Crowe on the subject of Bernard Marx.

"I told you so," was all that Fanny said, when Lenina came and made her confidences. "It's the alcohol they put in his surrogate."
"All the same," Lenina insisted, "I do like him. He has such awfully nice hands. And the way he moves his shoulders - that's very attractive." She sighed. "But I wish we weren't so odd."
